WePAC’s mission is to promote childhood literacy by engaging volunteers in Philadelphia public elementary schools to reopen and staff school libraries.  Established in 2004 in response to the shuttering of school libraries amidst a devastating (and ongoing) school funding crisis in Philadelphia, WePAC currently serves approximately 5,000 children in 14 schools in Philadelphia (with our 15th library opening in January 2018!) 

​WePAC’s main focus is helping children develop the critical literacy skills necessary to succeed in school and in life while also promoting the joy of reading. We are motivated by the belief that all children deserve to experience the distinct pleasure of visiting a library and enjoying the rich experience found in books and reading. In our vision, EVERY child Philadelphia student will be empowered with the literacy skills vital to the success of the child and the prosperity of our community.

Funds raised through WePAC's Race to Read 5K will help ensure that over 5,000 students in 15 elementary schools during the 2018-2019 school year have the opportunity to experience the joy of books and reading firsthand in our libraries.
